Session Topics will include:

  • Improving Communication -- Part 1
    • We know successful communication is essential to leading our firms, but what does that mean? To start off the Symposium, using the DISC Communication Styles model, every attendee will receive a detailed report on their communication style and preferences. As a group, we’ll review each style in depth, it’s strengths and weaknesses, and how we can apply these lessons to building successful communication and eliminating the possible damage that comes from un-successful communication or non-existent communication.
  • The Difference between Leadership and Management
    • As our firms are asked to evolve and change, we are called to determine how we can adapt, innovate when possible and lead our teams and employees to the new way effectively. Is this leadership? Is this management? The answer is it can require both, and they are distinctly different skills sets. Learn about how to identify your leaders and your managers, why you need both, how to develop their specific skills, and the risk of confusing one for the other.
  • Managing Change with Process
    • “The only constant is change.” We know this intimately. This session will discuss how you can build and use process to quickly and effectively adapt to the changes of our day to day work and how tactically, using process can help you get through change at the ground level with tips like “who to have on speed dial,” communication planning, and more.
  • Managing Change with People
    • Asking our team members to do things differently when we implement change can either be an opportunity for growth or for friction. Learn how to take on the people impact of change successfully through specific tools related to communication, training, the principles of accepting change and how to redesign team structure when necessary.
  • Improving Communication -- Part 2
    • On Day two, we’ll revisit the DISC profile and incorporate lessons on how we can use DISC to manage difficult people, increase positive team results, and practice tactics to work with different communication styles through group exercises and a look at how we, as a group, have learned to communicate across styles with one another.
  • Using Financial and Performance Metrics to Hit Your Targets
    • In an industry of constants ups and downs, with lows that make you question whether or not you should keep at it on a daily basis, it is critical that you identify, understand, and utilize your firm’s key performance indicators. These metrics can help you not only keep a finger on the pulse of your firm’s financial viability, but can be a great tool to improving profitability and your future outlook. In this session, we will discuss what reporting techniques you are using in your firm, whether the metrics you are obtaining are sufficient, whether they are working for you, and how you can make them better. We will spend time talking about where to start and what you should be measuring, and we will provide strategies to use the information you gather to improve the overall health of your firm.
  • In the Trenches
    • In addition to the great advice you will receive from our Affinity Industry Experts on managing your firms more effectively, we will also have a session for you by you! This session will be a deep dive look at how a couple of firms put the management techniques we are discussing at the Symposium to use every day.
