Best Buy has the APC 550VA Green UPS (battery backup) unit on sale for $39.99.  This is a good workstation level or home office UPS unit.  It is part of APC’s new series of UPS units featuring greater energy efficiency.  The battery in a UPS unit will last only about three years, and the cost of a replacement battery is high enough that makes more sense to buy a completely new unit.  That is especially true as technological improvements are made that results in lower energy use.  At $40, this is a very cheap insurance policy for your computer equipment and data.

Also on sale at Best Buy is a good basic Wireless N router, the stylish Linksys WRT 160N.   At $79.99, it provides a decent feature set and good performance.  However, if you stream multimedia content over your Wi-Fi network (not likely at the office, but if you have kids at home, it is very likely), look to a higher-end wireless router that features simultaneous dual-band data transmission such as the Linksys WRT400N.

If you have a cell phone or smart phone, chances are it has a memory expansion slot that accepts a Micro SD card.  Depending on the capabilities of your phone, extra memory storage will let you store songs for music playback on the go, photographs to show friends, or documents for your law practice.  You can also download and install useful applications if your phone has one of several operating systems (Windows Mobile, iPhone, Palm OS, Blackberry).  Office Depot has a SanDisk 4GB Micro SD card on sale for $14.99 this week.

In one of the better netbook bargains I’ve seen, your local Target has the Asus 1000HD for just $249.99.  It features Windows XP Home, a large 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM, a 10 inch LCD screen, and a decent keyboard for touch typing.  What you don’t get at this bargain price is the Intel Atom processor, meaning you have to settle for the somewhat slower performance of the Intel Celeron.  This is a retail store only sale, not available on-line.
