As many of you know, we have long recommended the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 as the go to scanner for legal professionals. You may have noticed that this model is no longer available on the Fujitsu website - although many vendors do still have them in stock if you want to stock up.
The new model that Fujitsu is showing is the ScanSnap iX500 - let's discuss some items of note for this new scanner.
First, the new model works for Windows or Mac (there are no longer separate models for each OS). However, it appears from Fujitsu's product description that the scanner only comes with Acrobat X Standard for Windows and does not include a Mac version of Acrobat (the S1500M came with Acrobat Professional). Also note that Acrobat X is not the current version (XI is current).
Second, the scanner is 25% faster (25 ppm simplex/50 ppm duplex).
Third, the iX500 has wireless connectivity and a new app which allows you to scan a PDF or JPG file directly to your iOS or Android phone or tablet. For a great video illustrating this function, see this - I think it's amazing, personally.
Fourth, the scanner has a "GI" processor built-in which performs "intelligent image enhancement." So the images will look better and, related to this, they have increased the speed with which the scanner creates searchable PDFs.
Finally, they've re-designed the paper feeder to minimize jams and multi-feeds. You can read more about the scanner here. The prices are a bit higher and stock is limited at this point (Amazon is out of stock, for example). The best price I could find was CostCentral.com at $433 and they have many of them in stock as of this writing.
