A consensus is forming on which laptop is the best full-service business laptop. This category goes beyond the more popular lightweight ultrabook form factor to focus on machines that are more powerful, rugged, and expandable (yet larger and heavier) than a typical ultrabook. The consensus pick is no surprise to those who follow the business laptop market.
The top business laptop choice is from Lenovo's venerable ThinkPad line. The ThinkPad T450s offers power, battery life, expandability and sturdiness that will meet the needs of demanding business users, including lawyers, who want a single portable do-everything machine that will last years. It is the top pick by The Wirecutter. The Wirecutter article also lists several other reviewers making the T450s the top business laptop pick. I came to the same conclusing when writing the Laptop Computer Buying Guide for Michigan's Institute of Continuing Legal Education back in March of this year. I don't use a T450s myself, but I have its little brother, the now aging ThinkPad X220 (replaced by the current X250), that is a rugged beast in its own right
The Wirecutter article notes that few people need a portable machine with this much rugged power. Most lawyers have a desktop computer at the office or home for demanding computing needs and can get away with a less powerful and lightweight ultrabook, Chromebook, or tablet as their portable machine. But for those who want a single portable machine capable of doing everything (except perhaps high-end gaming), a business laptop is worth considering.
